MODERN SCIENCE—Students from Preston High School in the Bronx and other schools in the archdiocese take in presentations at an Engineering Tomorrow conference Oct. 5 at Preston. Along with experiments on catapults and water re-use, the youths were instructed by engineering professionals and challenged to solve science-related problems. The pinnacle was the opening of a new engineering laboratory, above, donated by Engineering Tomorrow, a nonprofit organization that promotes engineering education in high schools. The 2,000- square-foot lab offers students a hands-on learning environment with advanced technology, including 3-D printers, wind tunnels, catapults, stress strain testers, robotics equipment and advanced audio visual equipment that can broadcast to schools around the archdiocese. All archdiocesan high schools will have access to the lab. The other Catholic high schools attending were Academy of Mount St. Ursula, St. Raymond Academy for Girls, Msgr. Scanlan, All Hallows, Cardinal Hayes and Mount St. Michael Academy, all of the Bronx. A conference will be offered to other schools Nov. 28 at Preston.
