Students will also examine how integrated circuits (ICs) are built, examine the engineering design process as it applies to maximizing yield, and perform an electroplating experiment using Copper Sulfate.
Electrical Engineering Ph.D. Student,
Columbia University
Schedule
Lab Days feature time for students to interact with college engineering students and professional engineers!
James is an electrical engineering PhD student at Columbia University’s Lightwave Research Laboratory, where he performs research in the area of integrated photonics.
He began his journey in semiconductor devices at the University of Notre Dame, where in 2022 he completed his B.S. in Electrical Engineering, with a concentration in Semiconductors and Nanotechnology. He then went to Columbia, where he obtained his M.S. in Electrical Engineering in 2024.
James designs, simulates, and tests photonic devices that are used for optical communications. Currently, his research projects include examining photonic circuit designs for satellite-satellite communications, and designing components in new material processes.
Virtual field trip event
3 hours live, available later on demand
Event type
No-cost, hands-on live-streamed event
Your students will come together virtually with other classes all over the country to learn about a specific topic in engineering and complete their own related projects.
Participate live for the event — or attend as much as you can and watch the rest on demand.
