Building Stuctures That Last

what you will learn

Students will learn about the importance of bridges in connecting communities across the globe and investigate the impact of different materials and designs.

They will explore stress and strain fundamentals and then have the opportunity to design, build, and test different bridges to maximize the load.

Please note that this lab day event is for Australian schools.

Meet our keynote speaker
Mark Tarrant

Mark Tarrant began as a Mechanical Engineer in underground mining and is now a Managing Director at GIP. He applies his engineering problem-solving skills to operational improvement, customer service, sales, and people management.

At GIP, he has held executive roles at Pacific National, ESG programs at Port of Melbourne, and currently at Sydney Airport. Mark is based in Melbourne, Australia.

Before GIP, Mr. Tarrant worked for 16 years in Operations Leadership with GE/SABIC, covering various roles including Head of Global Supply Chain COE in Shanghai and General Manager of Global Business Process in Saudi Arabia. He also served nearly 9 years in several leadership positions with GE (SABIC Innovative Plastics) across Australia, New Zealand, Greater China, and Asia Pacific.

Mr. Tarrant holds an MBA from Wollongong University, a MSc in Supply Chain Management from Penn State University, and a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from Swinburne University of Technology. He also completed an Executive ESG program from Cambridge University.

In his free time, he enjoys snow skiing, fishing, and mountain climbing. His wife is an engineer, and their two children study STEM subjects.
