Lab day event

Robotics

Intro to Coding & Virtual Robot Navigation

January 21, 2025|10am–1pm EST
what you will learn

In this Robotics lab, students will use block coding to control a virtual robot, learning the basics of variables, loops, and conditional statements.

Through various activities, they’ll test their coding skills, culminating in navigating a robot through a maze using the Coding Design Process.

Meet our keynote speaker
Josh Geating

Joshua is an associate director at Boston Dynamics on the Atlas humanoid team. He leads the actuation team, which is responsible for all of the various motors and gearboxes across the robot.

In his six years at the company, he has spent equal parts of his time in the weeds designing robots as well as managing teams to meet strategic milestones.

Prior to BD, Josh spent 5 years designing spacecraft mechanisms and “terrestrial” robots for the Naval Research Lab in Washington, DC. Ever since high school, Josh invested heavily in self teaching himself all aspects of robotics including mechanical, electrical, and software engineering. You would be equally likely to find Josh working on side robot projects in his basement, playing piano, exploring the meaning of life in late night conversations, or riding his longboard around town.

Josh received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University.

what is a lab day?

Lab Days are live, virtual field trips.

Virtual field trip event

3 hours live, available later on demand

Event type

No-cost, hands-on live-streamed event

Your students will come together virtually with other classes all over the country to learn about a specific topic in engineering and complete their own related projects.
Participate live for the event — or attend as much as you can and watch the rest on demand.
