what you will learn
Students will learn about the water treatment process. By applying the fundamentals of wastewater treatment in order to design a small-scale filtration system, students will assess how effectively their designs produce “cleaner” water.

Meet our keynote speaker
Natalie Celmo
Natalie Celmo, Senior Program Engineer at Engineers Without Borders USA, oversees projects for the Community Engineering Corps.
She began volunteering with EWB in 2010 and holds a Civil and Environmental Engineering degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Before joining in 2020, she worked in commercial construction and is a registered Professional Engineer.

Melissa Montgomery
Melissa is the Chief Programs Officer at Engineers Without Borders USA (EWB-USA), with 23 years in civil engineering and 12 years in international development.
She oversees 400+ projects in 38 countries and engages thousands of volunteers. Formerly a Peace Corps volunteer in Peru, Melissa is passionate about social justice and addressing inequities through engineering. Melissa received an MS in Biological Engineering from The University of Florida.

Brooke Poppe
Brooke Poppe, PE, is a Program Engineer at Engineers Without Borders USA, managing Community Engineering Corps projects in underserved US communities.
She has a BS in Environmental and Ecological Engineering from Purdue and over 7 years of experience in project management and Water Resources Engineering.
