After an introduction to Tinkercad, the design software the students will be using, they will have the design challenge of creating a puzzle with various-sized pieces that must fit into one another. They will then have the opportunity to create their own design of their choosing.
Schedule
Lab Days feature time for students to interact with college engineering students and professional engineers!
Aalap received his BS/MS in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University in 2016 and then went on to work in a clinical role for a medical device startup.
There he gained expertise in virtual/augmented reality for surgical preplanning, operative guidance, and education of medical trainees as well as patients. During that time he discovered a deep passion for clinical care and decided to pivot careers from engineering to medicine. Aalap was informed of his admission to medical school at The George Washington University as the world was entering the COVID-19 pandemic. In medical school he displayed an enduring interest in research, primarily focusing on surgical education using extended reality technologies.
This year, Aalap graduated medical school, becoming Dr. Herur-Raman, and started work as a Resident Physician at Virginia Commonwealth University. He will spend the next seven years training to become a General Surgeon.
